Owner’s Billy and Susan Johnson planted their first grapes in 2015. With deep Texas roots, they decided to honor their family’s histories with an estate vineyard and winery located just outside Fredericksburg, Texas. The theme of Texas Heritage, “Honoring our past, while celebrating the present”, defines what this wine is all about.
Joining Billy and Susan in this exciting venture are their four children, (and spouses) and their three grandchildren. Son, Cody Johnson, is the Vineyard Manager. Daughter, Jessica Allen, is the Tasting room manager. Oldest daughter, Amber Johnson George and husband, Justin, who live north of Dallas, played a large part in the planning process and supply all the designs for t-hirts, hats, and other Texas Heritage merchandise. Son, John Parker, who lives in Portland, Oregon, provides mental support and good vibes sent down to us in Texas.
Texas Heritage Vineyard opened the 1st weekend of May, 2018. The location is 3245 US Hwy 290 E., Fredericksburg, Texas. Located on Wine Trail 290, but only 3 miles east of the center of Fredericksburg. The tasting room is open Thursday thru Monday 11 am.
Long-time Texas Music enthusiast and supporters, the Johnson’s try to marry talented Texas Singer-songwriters and great Texas wines, made by hand with love, in their Tasting room and at their Winery. Look for events with these musicians in 2018.
Other events planned at the tasting room location include Texas Flag Retirement ceremonies on a quarterly basis. Billy Johnson has performed these ceremonies for years and all who watch or participate come away with a deep sense of Texas pride and appreciation.
Renowed Texas Winemaker, John Rivenburgh, has made Texas Heritage wines a reality. Custom crush was performed at our friend’s facility, 1851 Vineyards in 2016 and 2017. In 2018, the Johnson’s own facility will be ready to process both their estate grown fruit and fruit from great growers on the Texas High Plains. It is fitting that this facility is located at 3750 Grapetown Road, Fredericksburg, Texas….an historic community nestled in the rolling hills outside of Fredericksburg.
Like most Texans, the Johnsons are very proud of their State. They hope to preserve and promote that pride while having a blast with great texas wine!
